The first vintage, almost antique, brooch is circa
mid 1930's. It bears the patent number for
the pin mechanism, "PAT. 2066159". It was
patented by Alfred Philippe, who worked for Trifari at the time. He was issued this patent on August 11, 1936. The center shows a decorative finial embellished with clusters of small rhinestones that mimic sparkling gems. Surrounding it are scrolling filigree motifs in a warm bronze
or copper metal, adding to the rococo or
Victorian revival aesthetic. The outer edge
features a distinctive braided or twisted
rope-like border, a common motif in vintage
Celtic braiding. It comes to you unclean with
all its beautiful patina.(S) The second vintage, possibly antique, is an Art Nouveau brooch. The small sculpted face or mask was a popular design element during this period. The double draped chains suggest this brooch may have been used as a chatelaine, cape clasp, or collar pin. It measures
approximate 2 1/2 inches by 4 inches. In good vintage condition.
