An unusual subject and hard to find; a boy/man with a pipe wearing a cap. This head is a hand-painted chalkware character from the 1940s. The material is also known as plaster-of-paris. The head is a string holder of which many people collect and group on a wall.
In the past, before scotch tape (or any tape for that matter) all packages were tied with string. An easy, convenient way to dispense string from a ball was a wall-mounted string holder. They are super popular and look great about anywhere.
This head is 7¾" tall and in good condition for a chalkware piece with small chips, paint loss, etc..
Note: There is a crack that has been repaired below the jawline please look on front and back. Thank you!
