The flattened round shape of this bottle with the sides tapering to a mere sliver is quite unusual. The sloping shoulder also follow the tapering ending in flat oval foot with a slightly concave center. On the contrary the short neck has rather wide round opening. The cap is a green jade like stone on a black disk and the large cork stopper keeps the cap in place.
In the period of the 1920's, there was a revival of the snuff bottle making. Old craftsmen who used to work in the Beijing Palace Workshops were invited to the workshops to train younger apprentices in their craft. This bottle could have been an experimental piece from this period. It has no resemblance to traditional bottles and its form took on a rather modern approach.
